Elkhorn returns from Melbourne, Markit

We've had a little hiatus from the Elkhorn blog over the last week, hope you didn't miss us too much ; ) Having traveled to Melbourne for the spectacular Markit@FedSquare! Perhaps you came along and got lost in the midst of this wonderful event?! We were lucky enough to be situated next to the super talented Beci Orpin in a beautiful light filled room at Federation Square. I owe a huge thank you to my supportive & generous friend Jelly who lent me half her house for the Elkhorn Stall. I really think it was the best display yet! Of course the trip wouldn't of been possible without our Elkhorn supporters, it was lovely to meet you all!
I'll have more photos to share from Markit next week.

The Christmas markets continue for Elkhorn this Saturday at our favourite semi-local Olive Tree Markets, Newcastle. Hope you can join us then x

Elkhorn's summery brights

This week we have taken a fresh look at our Feather cushion creating a limited addition, printed on unbleached hemp/organic cotton. The result of the washed sea blues and citron came out lovely and crisp on the light natural fabric. Perfect for the brighter season.
Perhaps you can't see the difference in the fabric but we usually use a linen/cotton(with deeper beige undertones) which is currently out of stock hence the making of these. We will have these at Markit, Sunday week in Melbourne, Federation Square!

Also printed this week is our tangerine Grove cushion! It's the first time it has been made in a square cushion size.

I snuck in one of our new pippie scarves here made with beautiful soft organic cotton!

These feather prints are each very individual as we used a wash of colours rather then a straight colour print. The citron and sea blue have been mixed with a natural clay colour. What do you think? You can see our linen feather here to compare. We do still have some linen feather cushion covers in stock and will keep this line as the linen tones lends itself to natural texture & tone lounges.

Feather Cushion - Peter Pan nursery ideas

While roaming through 'baby themed' websites looking for a few 'bb shower' gifts I stumbled across our very own Elkhorn Feather Cushion! What a surprise! Brieanne from chalk + dot styled this Peter Pan Nursery Mood Board. Inspired by Neverland, the lost boys and the art of Mary Blair (I now know who she is after a google). It's pretty unexpected for a nursery don't you think? but I love the character & sense of adventure. I hadn't yet pictured our Feather Cushion in a baby's room... but why not! there's a first for everything! Their latest mood board is all colorful accents & animals which I think is pretty cute.

Souvenirs of ETCETERA

Sibella Court's life-size exhibition featuring souvenirs from her book 'Etcetera' starts tonight! It's part installation, part photography, and part paper exhibition. I have this book and often refer to it for interior inspiration on how to display my own collections. 'At this exhibition you'll be able to feel & experience all the special textured papers that make up Etcetera, discovering them in a space that you exist in, rather than the book that you hold within your hands'.. Sounds intriguing... I wish I could make it as I love Sibella's collections and the way she brings ideas together.
It's at the Barometer Gallery, Paddington. Let me know if you go. I hope to squeeze in a visit later this week.

Exhibition dates:
Opening Night: Tuesday 15 November/ 5-7pm
Open: Wednesday 16 - Sat 19 November/ 12-6pm
Exhibition Event - Q&A with author, Sibella Court & photographer, Chris Court/ Saturday 19 November/ 2-4pm

Sunday Boating

It was one of those idyllic central coast days yesterday. The weather was warm just a few clouds about and starting to feel like Summer. I spent the morning with my cousin Joel, we had a lazy breakfast & wandered down to the dog track (along Hardy's Bay) to check out the 'Classic Wooden Boat Gathering'. It was one for the enthusiasts for sure! I am lacking in all boat lingo so I'm not even going to attempt to name any of these hand made boats. Definitely just a admirer..

Joel helping 'bring in' the KURIL while I helpfully watched

A fold-away boat! It was literary pulled out of a small FWD in pieces and put together in a couple of minutes! I wonder if it would fit in my Toyota Echo!?

Watching out for his Captain!

Textural study on ropes

I love the simplicity & textural beauty of such an ordinary everyday object as 'la corde'... sounds better in french don't you think?  Although I have no idea how to knot one!

Beneath The Sun market debut! It was a pleasure having them next door
Leah's illustrations were gorgeous. I think she also shares my love of the ocean & birds.. So sweet!

It's taken a few days to recover from the Elkhorn Express to the Brissy Finders Keepers. It was well worth the trip & wonderful to be surrounded by such supportive & talented designers. Thanks to my wonderful sis & great buddy Erika for helping me out for the weekend & Emma Leonard & her sister Kylie for minding my stall on food expeditions & making me laugh!

Happy saturday!

HELLO!!
Hope your enjoying the start of your weekend and getting up to something fun! I've spent the last few days cooped up inside with an annoying cold. Finally feel on the up today and managed to get out, soak up a bit of sun & take stock of the weekend that was... The Brisbane Finders Keepers! sigh

Anyway since I had a spurt of energy I wanted to share these bright & chirpy guys (and/or ladies) as they made me chuckle this morning and I thought they'd put a smile on your dial to! Such inquisitive little fellows...

Hope to be back in to it next week with more to share then just birds! Not that their not more then wonderful x
