Market to market - Makers Market Murobond

It was refreshing to be on the other side of the stall for once... or so to speak as there were no "stalls" as such at this market. The inaugural Markers Market was more of a casual/relaxed scene with a collection of creations and designers mingling with the customers.

It was a lovely way to start the weekend and meet up with a few friends. I was quite taken by Harriet Goodall's handmade baskets. She makes beautiful tactile pieces that she magically wove together while chatting to me. Harriet spoke of the different materials that can be used to weave, like electrical cord, plastic bags and salvaged items. One of her commissioned pieces sounds so personal & special - a custom pendent she made for a boys room with paper words interlaced throughout the basket weave. I would love to attend one of her workshops in the near future. Hummmm better start collecting some weaving ideas! Just inspiring.
How great is it that the humble (but often uninspiring) paint shop has turned their space into a world of ideas for styling the house, incorporating their appealing range of colours.

Photos curtosy of Bespoke Press

I know I am still carrying on about the Finders Keepers! But if I don't show these extra photos from our stall now, I will never get around to it.

I feel like I have lost my touch(if i had one) with the camera lately. Either my hands are getting too shaky or I am just rushing the photographic process, all my photos seem to be coming our blurry and dull... But alas I am so lucky to be surrounded & meeting such supportive designers/artists, that are so open to not only sharing their photo albums but providing advise and an understanding ear.

These photos of the Elkhorn stall are from Alischa of Bespoke Press taken with her very still & skilled hand, who also happened to write a very lovely post about Elkhorn on her blog. Many thanks x

Makers Market

I feel like I have been missing out on a few exciting things in Sydney lately. Murbond paints, has transformed their show space into the Makers Market for the last couple of days. I have been getting updates from them the last few weeks so I am excited to finally see what it's all about tomorrow. Our friend Kirsten from MagnifiScent Flowers will have a stall as well as Publishers textiles, Scout House, Paper Couture and many more. If you get a chance to check it out it starts tomorrow at 11am till 1pm 81 Dickson Ave, Artamon. I am already inspire by this photo of their showroom!
I hope you have a great inspirational weekend x

feathery goodbyes

I just had to say a little goodbye to our last luminous feather cushion all wrapped up, ready for it's new home. I only ever made three of these cushions and I would have to say they were a favourite! They were each very individual with washed/mottled layers of hand screen printed feathers in my favorite yellow, greys & white, which gave a real 'life like' textural feel to the feather wing design. I was very tempted to keep them at one stage. But... I love the fact that they have all gone to separate homes and living in different spaces. I think it's nice to be able to buy a design knowing it's unique... there's are only 3 in Australia rather then 300 or 3000! bon voyage

The Finders Keepers sydney - part 2

Hello friends,
as promised here are a few more photos from the Finders Keepers weekend. I think we have nearly recovered. I still can't believe how many friends came by and supported Elkhorn, let alone the new & wonderful people we meet over the weekend.

Bespoke Press stall - these hello cards are just adorable and I will need to purchase some very soon! Alischa (Bespoke) kindly let me grab this photograph from her blog. I stocked up on her fab sticky tape but will be making more purchases at the Brisbane Finders Keepers!!

My wonderful friend Natasha helped out for the day. At one point there were about 10 people trying on different scarves. It was a relief to have her and Kelly there.

The E is a new addition to the Elkhorn stall props. A very thoughtful gift from my friend Jelly. A few people asked if it was for sale... but no. Jelly where is it from?

Father Elkhorn should be so proud of the boxes he made. They came up great for the day and created the 'store like' feel I was after. A few commissions may be coming his way!

My purchase from the weekend came from Ginny and Jude Designs. A very sweet necklace with a semi precious stone and pearl detail. I have been searching for a crystal necklace for some time and was so happy to come by it at the FK markets.

Our Orange Grove patch cushion went to a very good home.

Kelly & G the ever supporting couple. Thanks for all your endless support Kel and humble abode x

Thanks to everyone who came by and made the weekend so much fun and of course a huge thank you to the Finders Keepers and Carriageworks! Thanks Elkhorn mother & father for helping make it all happen. Next a little road trip to Brisbane Finders Keepers Markets - July 2/3rd!
There should be a few more Elkhorn Dahlia wraps out and about today, as we sold out!

etymologie

Could I be anymore in love with Anthropologie!? They have just gone ahead and made a very cool  tumblr page called etymologie. Each week a new word is chosen and staff can post photos, poems, videos & music of their interpretation of the word. Such a great little road to follow... you never know where one persons interpretation can take you...

The Finders Keepers sydney - part 1

Oh boy did we have a busy weekend! If you came down to the Finders Keepers you would know exactly how crazy/wonderful it was. Friday night was a shopping, drinking, socialising frenzy! Saturday was more subdued(in a sense). It was the perfect day to start with a little foodie shopping, breaky & coffee at the produce market then a design fix, coffee, wine, live music inside. My favourite combos!
I took a few photos myself but haven't put them together yet. I am extra lucky to have these beautiful photos that Jillian Leiboff took of the Elkhorn stall on Saturday... the natural light at the Carriageworks is so beautiful. Jillian really captured the soft ethereal feel. Thanks Jillian x Part 2 tomorrow
Make sure you visit Jillian's full shoot from Finders Keepers here

The Finders Keepers - Very soon!

Here's a random collection of our work in progress! Somehow these bits and bobs, amongst other beauties are going to come together (in the next three days) to create our Elkhorn stall for the Finders Keepers markets! Elkhorn Mother keeps saying 'we won't finish everything' but me being the ultimate optimist keeps saying 'YES WE WILL'!  She has been amazing, working non-stop. Even Father Elkhorn has come reluctantly on board, doing the coffee runs and creating new display boxes!
At the end of the day, I am also a realist and will be happy with what we complete. With all this mad buzz, I feel like I am getting ready for a party and can't wait for friday when the stall is all set up! I guess turning another year older also has something to do with it...
See you there x

Beautiful weathered wharf

Although we are heading into winter here... I am so taken by this glamorous Anthropologie shoot. I love the weathered wharf with the contrasting 50's(?) beauty. The location is very Elkhorn-esk, don't you think? I am sure the fishermen down at Patonga would think she was the catch of the day!
Right! all I need now is to design some Elkhorn swimwear and have one of my glamorous Elkhorn friend's pose. Any volunteers?  Speaking of Patonga I am heading their now for a yummy pub lunch! I hope your enjoying your weekend x

Camellia ruffles

I love the garden in autumn with it's hazy hues of pink... it feels romantically, old fashioned. Mana(Nan) loved Camellias, so the garden is full of their gorgeous flowers. I always remember them displayed so beautifully in a crystal bowl. Their soft delicate petals & subtle tones have inspired me to create a collection of 'camellia themed' Ruffle Scarves. Below is the start of them along with my amateur flower arranging. I think they would be a sweet addition to an autumn outfit, adding a touch of romance x
